Daily Curriculum

Language Arts - This year we have a new Language Arts called Journeys.  Third grade used it last year and they found it be very successful.  Grades 1-5 will be using it this year at Ross Street.  The program consists of many different components:  Teacher Read Aloud, Phonics, Vocabulary Instruction, Reading Comprehension, Grammar and a Writing component as well.  This is a brand new program for the teachers as well as the students so we will be learning the ins and outs of the new program right along with them :) 



Mathematics - We use the Everyday Math program, which consists of 12 units.  After each unit we will have a day of review and then an assessment. The night before a Math Test a Study Sheet will be sent home. Each problem should be practiced with an adult in order to prepare for the test. There will be no Math homework assigned the day of the Math Test. When you see a graded Math Test come home, have your child correct any mistakes he/she may have made and return the corrected test the next school day.

Science/Social Studies/Health - In our content areas we focus on school and the community, plants and animals, emotions we all share and how to cope with those feelings.
